Tidal Evolution of the Planetary System around Hd 83443

چکیده
Two planets with orbital period ratio approximately 10:1 have been discovered around the star HD 83443. The inner and more massive planet, HD 83443b, has the smallest semi-major axis among all currently known exoplanets. Unlike other short period exoplanets, it maintains a substantial orbital eccentricity, e1 = 0.079± 0.008, in spite of efficient tidal damping. This is a consequence of its secular interactions with HD 83443c whose orbital eccentricity e2 = 0.42 ± 0.06. Dissipation, associated with tides the star raises in the inner planet, removes energy but not angular momentum from its orbit, while secular interactions transfer angular momentum but not energy from the inner to the outer planet’s orbit. The outward transfer of angular momentum decreases the tidal decay rate of the inner planet’s orbital eccentricity while increasing that of the outer planet. The alignment of the apsides of the planets’ orbits is another consequence of tidal and secular interactions. In this state the ratio of their orbital eccentricities, e1/e2, depends upon the secular perturbations the planets exert on each other and on additional perturbations that enhance the inner planet’s precession rate. Tidal and rotational distortions of the inner planet along with general relativity provide the most important of these extra precessional perturbations, each of which acts to reduce e1/e2. Provided the planets’ orbits are coplanar, the observed eccentricity ratio uniquely relates sin i and C ≡ (k2/k2J)(R1/RJ) , where the tidal Love number, k2, and radius, R1, of the inner planet are scaled by their Jovian equivalents. Formation and Tidal Evolution of Hot Super-earths in Multiple Planetary Systems
Hot super-Earths are exoplanets with masses ≤ 10M⊕ and orbital periods≤ 20 days. Around 8 hot super-Earths have been discovered in the neighborhood of solar system. In this lecture, we review the mechanisms for the formation of hot super-Earths, dynamical effects that play important roles in sculpting the architecture of the multiple planetary systems. Two example systems (HD 40307 and GJ 436) ...
متن کاملA dynamical mechanism for establishing apsidal resonance
We show that in a system of two planets initially in nearly circular orbits, an impulse perturbation that imparts a finite eccentricity to one planet’s orbit causes the other planet’s orbit to become eccentric as well, and also naturally results in a libration of their relative apsidal longitudes for a wide range of initial conditions. We suggest that such a mechanism may explain orbital eccent...

This paper summarizes the information gathered for 16 still unpublished exoplanet candidates discovered with the CORALIE echelle spectrograph mounted on the Euler Swiss telescope at La Silla Observatory. Amongst these new candidates, 10 are typical extrasolar Jupiter-like planets on intermediate-or long-Two of these stars are in binary systems. The next 3 candidates are shorter-period planets (...
متن کاملTidal Decay of Close Planetary Orbits
The 4.2-day orbit of the newly discovered planet around 51 Pegasi is formally unstable to tidal dissipation. However, the orbital decay time in this system is longer than the main-sequence lifetime of the central star. Given our best current understanding of tidal interactions, a planet of Jupiter’s mass around a solar-like star could have dynamically survived in an orbit with a period as short...

The new 2-planetary system around HD 169830 has been announced during the XIX-th IAP Colloquium " Extrasolar Planets: Today & Tomorrow " (Paris, June 30-July 4, 2003) by the Geneva Extrasolar Planet Search team. We study the orbital dynamics of this system in the framework of the N-body problem. The analysis of its orbital stability is performed using the long-term integrations and the fast ind...
